Several World Tour-teams competing in Tour des Fjords

22. – 24. Of May 2018 Tour des Fjords will take place with stages along the southern coast of Norway. With several World Tour-teams participating, the competition has never been tougher. If the continental teams want to give the big guns a run for their money, they will have to be on their A-game. In the upcoming weeks we will be presenting this year competitors, starting with some proper belters.

Since debuting in 2010, Team Sky has made a major impact on cycling. From the get-go the team was among the greatest, if not the greatest, a position they have still to lose. Now they will compete for top honors, for the first time, along the fjords and across the fields of southern Norway, and with their roster it will be a hard-fought battle to the end.

Knowing the future lies in recruitment Team Sky recently signed several young riders, among them is Kristoffer “Doffen” Halvorsen. Having won stages at the Tour de l’Avenir, top spots at Belgium semi classics and world champions tittle in the U23 class at WC Qatar, and if Kristoffer is to compete in Tour des Fjords, he is going to get a lot of attention from the crowd as he passes through his hometown.

Victory is guaranteed

With more then 400 victories few teams can compare to Lotto Soudal. At their best they won 40 times, in one season! As a team Lotto Soudal have won stages at the Vuelta a España, Giro d’Italia and Tour de France. They have also won both Liège – Bastogne – Liège and the Giro di Lombardia. Team with such merits often have more than talented riders, they have great leadership. With the experience the team possesses we can expect them to always be in front at the critical phases of the race, even if this is their first participation in Tour des Fjords. Be it crosswinds of positioning in towards the hills, Lotto Soudal will be among the teams leaving their mark.

Attack is the best defense

Few, if anyone, creates more interesting races than Caja Rural – Seguros RGA. The Spaniards can guarantee one thing no matter the course at hand; attack. From the moment the start gun goes, till the last guy has crossed the line, this team will be in the middle of the action. Attack followed by attack, increasing the pressure until someone hits the famous “wall”. If there is a breakaway, then Caja Rural – Seguros RGA will be present, and if not, they will be surging from behind. Participating for the 5th time, Caja Rural – Seguros RGA have proven their place in Norway, despite the weather. With offensive riders and tactics, they are a guarantee for excitement.

Local knowledge is key

No one knows the course quite like the Norwegian continental teams do. Team Coop will be competing on their own front lawn as they fight for top honors in Tour des Fjords. After several years with top positions in TdF thanks to riders such as August Jensen and Sven Erik Bystrøm, the team must fight again to establish themselves as the pillar of Norwegian cycling. With the steady hand of Magnus Børresen at the wheel, Team Coop shall once again challenge the establishment and give us, the audience, hours of entertainment.
